New Urban Adventure Race Headed to Downtown Indianapolis

Indy Ultimate will feature challenges at sports, military, cultural venues

Registration opens today for The Indy Ultimate, an urban adventure race that will wind through downtown Indianapolis and feature challenges in some of the city’s most recognized sports, military and cultural venues. The Central Indiana Community Foundation will be the presenting sponsor of the new Indiana Sports Corp event, which will make its debut on April 30.

“We have great community partners who have helped us put together a race that has something for everyone. It’s not a pure running race, it’s not a mudder event, it’s a course for anyone who wants to run or walk, see the city and engage in some fun challenges at iconic points along the way. And it incorporates our military, sports and cultural facilities,” said Ryan Vaughn, president of the Indiana Sports Corp.

“When we learned about the idea for this event, we couldn’t resist getting involved. It’s a perfect fit for our inspiring places initiative to improve and advance public spaces in ways that promote community health and vitality. This event is a great addition for downtown Indianapolis,” said Lee White, board member at the Central Indiana Community Foundation.

Participants will start at Military Park on the sports circuit. They’ll kick a soccer goal at Carroll Stadium, run by the NCAA Hall of Champions and the Indianapolis Zoo in White River State Park, and run the bases at Victory Field. The next stop is Lucas Oil Stadium to attempt a field goal, across Georgia Street and on to Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

From Bankers Life, military attractions become the focus. Participants will run around Monument Circle, up, around and down the steps at the Indiana War Memorial, and through an obstacle course at American Legion Mall.

The final segment is all about culture as competitors head across the Glick Peace Walk on Walnut Street, engage in art activities created by the Arts Council of Indianapolis on the Canal Walk and run through time at the Indiana State Museum before crossing the finish line in Military Park.

Social media will be a big part of the Indy Ultimate, with opportunities for selfies and photos throughout the course. Hashtag is #ConquerIndy. Registration is $75 through February 25. The Indy Ultimate will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, with rolling starts every five minutes. For more information, a course map, video and registration, go to www.indyultimate.com.
