INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Pacers announced Thursday their 2016-17 National Basketball Association schedule and they will open the season in Bankers Life Fieldhouse against the Dallas Mavericks, Wednesday, Oct. 26. That marks the start of a season-long celebration of the team’s 50th season.
After the opener, the Pacers go on the road for two games (Brooklyn, Chicago) before returning home to host the Los Angeles Lakers, Nov. 1. That opens a busy month at Bankers Life Fieldhouse with 11 home games. Defending NBA Champion Cleveland makes the first of two visits Nov. 16 (the Cavaliers return Feb. 8) and the Cavs’ NBA Finals opponent, Golden State, makes its only trip to Indiana, Nov. 21. The Pacers also host their traditional night after Thanksgiving game Nov. 25 when they play Brooklyn.
The Pacers will also open 2017 with a home game when they host Orlando, New Year’s Day. Last season’s playoff opponent and Eastern Conference Finalist Toronto makes its only visit of the season, Apr. 4. That’s one of three home games in April as the Pacers finish the season with five of their last eight on the road. Atlanta visits Apr. 12 for the final game of the regular season.
A unique feature to the schedule will be the Pacers’ first ever regular season game overseas, Jan. 12, when they play Denver in London. Aside from that long trek, the Pacers have two trips of length: five games in 10 days in late November/early December and five games in 10 days in late February/early March.
The Pacers will have 17 nationally televised games this season. Four games will be televised by TNT: De. 22 vs. Boston; Jan. 23 vs. New York; Feb. 13 vs. San Antonio and Mar. 6 at Charlotte. ESPN will carry seven games: Dec. 14 at Miami; Jan. 20 at the L.A. Lakers; Feb. 10 at Washington; Feb. 15 at Cleveland; Mar. 8 vs. Detroit; Mar. 31 at Toronto and Apr. 12 vs. Atlanta. NBATV will televise six games: Nov. 30 at Portland; Dec. 26 at Chicago; Jan. 12 at Denver (played in London); Jan. 16 vs. New Orleans; Mar. 12 vs. Miami and Mar. 19 at Toronto. The Pacers local television and radio broadcast schedule will be announced at a later date.
