    04/08/2010

Boomer to camp out for “Common Goal” at Emmis headquarters Thursday in effort to raise money to help kids stay in high school

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Pacers mascot Boomer – known for his acrobatics and antics inside Conseco Fieldhouse – will make a mad dash to Monument Circle Thursday where he will set up a tent at Emmis Communications and camp out on the balcony to raise money for Common Goal, an initiative by the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce to increase the high school graduation rates of Marion County students.

The Pacers will sell Krieg DeVault Club Level and Balcony Level tickets for only $10 and will donate 50 percent of the sales to Common Goal. From his perch on the fourth-floor balcony overlooking Monument Circle, Boomer will encourage people to help Common Goal by purchasing these specially-priced tickets. He will be joined throughout Thursday and Friday by Pacers personalities who will give away prizes.

The Pacers have supported Common Goal since the initiative launched in 2008 and committed more than $500,000 and numerous employees who mentor Marion County high school students. Common Goal will use the $5,000 from ticket sales to provide monies dedicated to other Common Goal efforts including graduation coaches in 13 schools, reading remediation and credit recovery programs.

“Thanks to the Indiana Pacers and all of our corporate sponsors, Common Goal is helping thousands of high school students stay in school by providing mentors, graduation coaches and other resources all geared to help students at risk of dropping out or falling through the cracks,” said Roland Dorson, Chamber President.

“We are excited that Boomer is going to camp out for Common Goal, a great program dedicated to raising the high school graduation rate of Indianapolis students,” said Jim Morris, President of Pacers Sports & Entertainment.
