For the second time in less than a month, the staffs of Bankers Life Fieldhouse and Fieldhouse caterer Levy have combined to produce a “zero waste” event in which more than 90 percent of the waste was either composted or recycled.
Last Saturday night’s Dropping Dimes Foundation Gala achieved a 92.5 percent rating with 1,055 pounds of food, waste and trash were diverted from local landfills. The event generated just 84 pounds of trash.
Last month’s Corks and Forks fundraiser at the Fieldhouse achieved a 92 percent rating.
“We’re proud of our ongoing commitment and the teamwork required to reduce our environmental impact,” said Doug Weitkamp, Senior Director of Sustainability for Pacers Sports & Entertainment. “As the most widely used public building in Indiana, it is necessary for us to assume a leadership role in this regard.”
“Our great partnership with Bankers Life Fieldhouse has allowed us to enhance our sustainability efforts,” said Alana Barnett, Levy VP of Hospitality and Strategy. “At Levy, we’re laser focused on limiting our impact on the environment, so accomplishing zero waste at events like Dropping Dimes gives us great momentum to achieve this at an even bigger scale in the future.”
