Pacers Sports & Entertainment and Second Helpings Set Bankers Life Fieldhouse Record for Waste Diversion at Corks & Forks Event

Pacers Sports & Entertainment partnered with Second Helpings, the food rescue, hunger relief and culinary job training organization in Central Indiana, to achieve a zero-waste milestone for the second year in-a-row during the annual Corks & Forks fundraiser held on March 20, 2019 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

In 2018, Corks & Forks achieved a milestone as the first event at Bankers Life Fieldhouse to qualify as zero waste. This year, Pacers Sports & Entertainment and Second Helpings continued their efforts with a new milestone by achieving a waste diversion rate of 93.1%, which set a record for the least amount of waste for any event in the history of Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

“As a member of the Green Sports Alliance, we are committed to building healthy and sustainable communities where we live, work and play” said Doug Weitkamp, Senior Director of Event Production & Sustainability for Pacers Sports & Entertainment. “Together with our great partners at Levy Restaurants and Second Helpings, we are continuing to reduce our environmental impact through efforts like zero-waste events at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.”

“My team and I were honored to support Corks & Forks again this year,” said Julia Spangler, Sustainable Events Consultant for Second Helpings. “We served as the on-site, zero-waste team, meaning we set up the zero-waste stations that were featured throughout the event, helped guests sort their waste correctly, and measured all of the event’s waste to calculate our results. It’s hard work to achieve zero waste, but we couldn’t ask for better partners than Second Helpings, Pacers Sports & Entertainment, and Levy, who all were 100% committed to the zero-waste goal.”

Corks & Forks brings together more than 20 of Indy’s top chefs and bartenders at the most exclusive spaces at Bankers Life Fieldhouse for an evening of delicious food, live music, local beer, wine and craft cocktails in support of Second Helpings’ mission to transform lives through the power of food.
